How to Choose a Photo for a Halloween Design

By the Halloween AI team · Updated

Choose a sharp, evenly lit photo with one clear subject and room around the edges. A pet’s eyes and markings should be visible. In the current studio, an uploaded photo becomes the design background; it is not automatically transformed into a costume.

Start with the subject in focus

Use a photo where the eyes and facial features are clear. Avoid screenshots of a small distant subject and strong shadows across the face. For pets, keep ears, paws and distinctive fur patterns visible if they matter to the finished portrait.

Leave room for a new crop

A wide photo may lose its sides in a vertical story. A tight portrait may cut off ears or a hat when zoomed. Pick a photo with spare room, then use the studio’s zoom and position controls after selecting the final output shape.

Plan a quiet area for text

Busy shelves, bright windows and patterned clothing can compete with lettering. Look for a plain wall, soft foliage or a dark area behind the greeting. Keep a name or date away from eyes and other important details.

Use a photo you may edit and share

Use your own photo or one you have permission to use. Check the background for addresses, badges or other details you do not want in the downloaded image. Check that you have permission to use every person or photo included in your design.

Check the result at the final size

Look for an awkward crop, blurred eyes and lettering that crosses the subject. For a print, inspect a proof. For a short design animation, watch all six seconds because the gentle camera movement can reveal crop problems.

Questions before you create?

Can I use a household pet photo?

Yes. A clear cat or dog portrait with room for cropping is a useful background for a personalized design.

Will uploading a photo create an AI costume?

No. Uploading replaces the design background. AI costume transformations are not available yet.
